Esther Rubin Registered Counselling

I am a Registered Counsellor based in Victory Park, Johannesburg.

My counselling work focuses on short-term, supportive therapy for individuals, couples, and families. I work with people navigating relationship difficulties, trauma, bereavement, anxiety, depression, adolescent issues, behavioural problems, and parenting challenges. I have extensive experience in the use of play therapy, which I use with children as a way for them to explore and express what they are experiencing in a safe, non-threatening environment.

With over 30 years of experience as a speech therapist and audiologist across private practice, schools, rehabilitation centres, children's homes, and community organisations, I started my private counselling practice as a Registered Counsellor in 2009.

I completed my counselling internship at the Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre (JPCCC) and went on to work for 13 years at FAMSA's Family Life Centre in Johannesburg, providing individual and couples counselling. I have also served as a counsellor at Acres of Love Children's Home since 2011, working with children in residential care as well as the house parents. Between 2020 and 2021 I provided online counselling through Chai FM's counselling service.

I am also a qualified Community Art Counsellor, trained through Lefika La Phodisa - South Africa's first psychoanalytically informed community art counselling training centre. I incorporate art as a therapeutic medium with clients who find it difficult to express themselves verbally.

I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
